Song Meaning of God Only Knows by The Beach Boys, and what it is about
At a London party the night McCartney and John Lennon first heard Pet Sounds, they composed "Here, There and Everywhere," which draws inspiration from "God Only Knows."
Although Carl Wilson's subdued lead vocal is note-perfect, "God"'s heavenly atmosphere is created by the combination of horns, sleigh bells, strings, and accordion.
Brian Wilson, who was interested in spirituality, claimed that this song was the result of studio prayer sessions. When making Pet Sounds, he claimed, "We made it a religious ceremony." The main issue was that the title's inclusion of the word "God" scared some radio programmers away.
Several songs, including "God Only Knows," were written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher for the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album. Asher thought it was the two's easiest time working together, recalling that Wilson "spent more time tweaking the instrumental part than we did writing the words!"
Recalling "God Only Knows", Wilson acknowledged that he himself had "not written that kind of song" before and explained, "I think Tony had a musical influence on me somehow. After about ten years, I started thinking about it deeper, and I remember him talking about 'Stella by Starlight' and he had a certain love for classic songs." Asher concurred that he felt he had inspired Wilson to write the song.
Song Lyrics of God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Well, life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?
God only knows what I'd be without you
Ooh, ooh
Do, do, do, do, do, do, do
Bow, buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do)
Buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do, do, do)
Buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow, buh-bow (Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do)
God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Well, life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me?
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you
God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)
God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows)
God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)
God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows)
God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)
God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows)
God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)
God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows)
God only knows what I'd be without you (What I'd be)
God only knows what I'd be without you (God only knows)
