Song Meaning of Something by The Beatles
The title of James Taylor's 1968 song "Something in the Way She Moves," a new signing to the Beatles' Apple Records, prompted George Harrison to pen "Something" near the conclusion of the White Album recording sessions.
He gave it to Joe Cocker because it was too late to add it to the disc. The following year, the Beatles recorded a revised version with a string section as Harrison's lone A-side single with the band.
This version soon gained popularity and was covered by everyone from Frank Sinatra to Ray Charles.
The English rock group the Beatles released the song "Something" on their 1969 album Abbey Road. The primary guitarist of the group, George Harrison, wrote it. It is frequently regarded by music historians as having signalled Harrison's rise to the level of the Beatles' major composers, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, as a composer.
It reached its peak at number four in the UK and topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the US as well as the charts in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and West Germany.
The song is typically regarded as Harrison's first wife Pattie Boyd's love song.
Lennon declared that it was the best song on Abbey Road, and the other Beatles and their producer, George Martin, also praised the tune. Each of the Beatles and their separate wife were featured in the single's promotional video, portraying the estrangement that existed among the group in the months leading up to their breakup in April 1970.
"Something" received the Ivor Novello Award for the "Best Song Musically and Lyrically" of 1969. By the late 1970s, it had been covered by over 150 artists, making it the second-most covered Beatles composition after "Yesterday".
Something lyrics by The Beatles
Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me
I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how
Somewhere in her smile she knows
That I don't need no other lover
Something in her style that shows me
Don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how
You're asking me will my love grow
I don't know, I don't know
You stick around, now it may show
I don't know, I don't know
Something in the way she knows
And all I have to do is think of her
Something in the things she shows me
I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how
