Song Meaning of Good Riddance Time Of Your Life by Green Day

In 1993, Billie Joe Armstrong penned "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" in response to his lover Amanda moving to Ecuador. He named the song "Good Riddance" to express his resentment of Amanda. It was not until the Dookie recording sessions later that year that he played the song for his fellow band members. But during the recording sessions, producer Rob Cavallo decided the song was too distinct from the other tracks on Dookie, and he wasn't sure how to organise the recording.

When it came time to record Nimrod, Armstrong chose to rerecord the song, and Cavallo recommended including strings. To record the strings, he moved the band into another room to play foosball, and it took "like fifteen, twenty minutes, maybe a half hour at the most." Cavallo gave his choice to include the strings some thought. "I knew that what we had done was correct. The moment I heard it, I knew it was a hit."

The song surprised the band when it became popular at prom dances.

Lyrics of Good Riddance Time Of Your Life by Green Day

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road

Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go

So make the best of this test, and don't ask why

It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind

Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time

Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial

For what it's worth it was worth all the while

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life

It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right

I hope you had the time of your life
